Fundraising Update: October 2010

Walk and Roll was a huge success! We’ve raised over $12,000 so far and the money is still coming in. Thank you B.F. Day kids, families, friends, and neighbors. And a special thank you to Carolyn Kelley for organizing this wonderful event. With this money we can provide a vocal music program for all our kids, all year long. If they haven’t already, urge your kids to collect their hard-earned money and bring it into school!

Direct Drive is a request that all B.F. Day Families contribute what they can towards B.F. Day PTSA supported programs. Any amount helps and is appreciated. Our goal this year is to raise $30,000. We’ve raised $5,050.00 thus far. And this is with only 20 of our families participating.

The money the BF Day PTSA has raised so far will cover:

  • this year’s after-school Chess Club offering
  • an all-day visit by the Pacific Science Center Van
  • the year-long ArtsCorp program

For ArtsCorp this year, we’re pleased to welcome back musician Arturo Rodriguez who will be working with K-4 graders on rhythm and percussion. In the spring we welcome visual artist Shannon Andersen, who will be working with the fifth graders on the mural project.

We’ve launched a class-by-class direct drive participation competition. The class with the highest percentage of students participating (not gross dollars) will be treated to a special pizza party in the spring. Curious about your child’s class standing? Check out the big bar graph graphic by the kindergarten classrooms. Donations can be made at anytime by simply sending a check to the school, made out to the BF DAY PTSA and designated “Direct Drive” on the check or envelope. Please let us know your child’s name and classroom and your address so we can send you a tax receipt. You can also donate via PayPal (just go to

Chinook Book: We’ve sold 25 Chinook Books so far. Please help sell this fabulous book of coupons to local stores, restaurants and entertainment venues. The Chinook Book costs $20 – B.F. Day keeps $10 for every book sold. There is also a new iPhone option this year. The book comes with an individual iPhone code so you can download the full coupon set for free on your iPhone and never have to clip another coupon. A special thanks to Adrienne Strickland for organizing this fundraiser. To sell and order Chinook Books, either fill out and return the form (on table outside office) or email the PTSA (

Square One: The kids have been creating masterpieces for Square One Art. Square One will turn your child’s original piece into all kinds of great items from coffee mugs and potholders, to mosaic tiles and t-shirts, to journal and sketch book covers, you name it. These items make great holiday gifts. A copy of your child’s drawing and an order form will be coming home soon. 33.3% of total sales are returned to the B.F. Day PTSA. A special thanks to Shawn Tucker for organizing Square One again this year, and the classroom teachers for helping make this happen.

Thanks for all your support!
