2017-2018 Tour dates announced

Lovely families – are you curious about your local Family School? Do you want a closer look at how the oldest continually operating Seattle public school works and thrives? (Next year is our 125th birthday!) Come and see how wonderful B.F. Day Elementary school is.

Our New Family tours are the following:
December 8, 2016 at 9:00am
February 8, 2017 at 9:00am
February 16, 2017 at 5:30pm

The evening tour coincides with our Take Your Parent To School Night and will be a vibrant (and busy) evening with students and teachers showing off all their remarkable achievements.

Come and visit, we’d be so happy to show you around. Also, don’t hesitate to get in touch:  RSVPs encouraged, but not required. Also, kids are welcome to the evening tour.

Welcome from the President:  

Dear B.F. Day families – Welcome Back! We are gearing up for the new school year and are thrilled to see you back at school. Your PTSA is here to create bridges and connections between Families, Staff, Teachers and Students as well as our greater Fremont community. We consider it an imperative to be transparent, to communicate, to lead with the best interests of our student learners in mind.

  • Do you have any questions? Email us anytime, or grab us on the playground.
  • Do you want to help? We have a plethora of things for people to help out, and we know you’d be perfect for it.
  • Do you have new ideas? Pitch them to us – no idea is too small, or too big. We want to hear them all.

Let’s get this year started. We are so happy that you are here.

Thank You Thursday – A Fundraiser with Reuben’s Brews

reubenFrom “As one of the ways we are able to give back to the community that supports us, every Thursday we donate $1 per pint to the designated charity of the week. ”

We are thrilled to partner with Reuben’s Brews for a great evening of enjoying a pint of fine craft beer and raising money for our kid’s school! Some additional details:

This event is FAMILY FRIENDLY!

The fundraiser is open all business hours, that’s 3pm till 9pm.

Reuben’s Brews is a taproom that pours pints, growlers and tasters of their national award-winning beers. Each beer purchase earns a donation to the PTSA. The amount donated is $1 per pint, and appropriately scaled amount on growlers and tasters.

Food? You are completely allowed to bring your own! Also, there is pretty much always a food truck parked in front. The taproom has a big box of pretzels you are welcome to scoop up, and Tim’s Cascade Chips for sale, but if you stay for dinner, just know there is no kitchen there.

The food truck on premises is confirmed to be Burgerphenia!

Thomas Kemper root beer and ginger ale is also available for purchase.

Come on down, enjoy a beautiful evening with craft beer, gourmet food truck grub, root beer, sidewalk chalk, conversation. Bring your friends and neighbors too!

Fremont Players present Beauty and the Beast

Fremont Players work their magic on this classic tale. The lovely Belle must save her family from ruin and defeat the nefarious Lord Malice, but how? Meet her outrageous sisters, her well-meaning father, and her charming aunt as they face the cursed and frightening Beast. Complete with sparkling fairies, a magic horse and all your favorite Panto surprises, Beauty & the Beast is sure to entertain audiences both young and old.

Experience the best British Panto this side of the Pond. This year’s Panto is once again full of large, colorful characters, original songs, plenty of audience participation, and swashbuckling fun for the whole family! You’ll be encouraged to boo at the villain, cheer for the hero, and sing along with whole cast.

All-School Summer Picnic – August 14th

Happy Summer from the BF Day PTSA! We hope you all are enjoying your
summer break and are looking forward to an exciting new school year for your kids. We’d love to invite you to keep in touch, meet our new principal, welcome new families, and help prepare for the first day of school. See details below:

Connect with old friends and make new ones at the summer picnic on Thursday, August 14th starting at 6:00pm at Wallingford Park.  Bring a picnic dinner for your family as well as any outdoor games you may enjoy.  Please stop by the table next to the play structure for name tags and an opportunity to meet incoming principal, Stan Jaskot.  Classroom assignments will also be available! 

Easy Everyday Fundraising
Who’s been collecting their Box Tops and Labels for Education in the little baggies we sent home at the end of the school year?! And are you remembering to toss those Ballard Market receipts in there too?! It’s never too late to start! In fact, there are tons of ways to raise money for BF Day while you’re doing your regular shopping, at no added expense to you. Check out our webpage for how shopping at Amazon, Bartell Drugs, PCC, Fred Meyer, and more can raise money for our school. It couldn’t get any easier!

The PTSA is always working to find the best ways to reach out to our families, so look for some changes in our outreach this coming school year. For this and the rest of our summer announcements and updates, we are using our 2013/14 email list. Please email directly to be added, removed or to add a different email address. Principal Jaskot will introduce himself and would then like to conduct a short activity to learn more about what the PTSA views as strengths and next steps for B.F. Day.

The B.F. Day PTSA needs your participation for school year 2014/15
• We are accepting nominations for all PTSA positions through May 21, 2014.
• Some positions necessitate regular Board meeting attendance. Other positions can be done almost entirely on your own time.
• Some of the positions we NEED to fill are Vice President and Secretary, as well as After School Programs Coordinator, Communications Assistant and Committee Leads for our various fundraising efforts.
• Not sure how you can best contribute? Let us help you find a good fit. Check out the list of position descriptions.
• If you cannot come to the meeting on May 21, you can make a nomination or declare your interest in a position via email to
• Positions will be voted on at the Board Meeting on June 12, 2014

A Message from Ms. Katie Pearl

The PTSA has been given this message from Ms. Pearl, and her blessing to send along to our families. This same message will be distributed to a larger school email list on Monday when Carrie Bauer returns to the school office.

B.F. Day Families,

I know by now you have all received the email regarding me not returning to B.F. Day next year. While the decision was the Superintendents, I was not left out of the process. Stan Jaskot was also very much involved as well. The decision to go to Northgate Elementary comes after much thought and reflection. I do have to say that with a lot of wonderful change in my personal life this year; getting married and expecting a child in September, I am making sure that I am able to fulfill both work and family commitments to my best ability. In this decision making process I have reflected on my strengths as a leader and my areas for growth all the while keeping in mind what drives me to work each and every day to support the growth and success of all children. It is with this that I believe Northgate is a great next step for me. I also am sure, with great confidence, that Stan Jaskot is a great fit for B.F. Day. He has chosen to come to the B.F. Day community and he is excited to bring his great experience, support of the arts and his strong instructional leadership. I know that change is always hard, but please know that this is something that all parties involved feel is best for both school communities moving forward to support the growth and success of all students. I am more then happy to meet with you to answer further questions.

Have a Beer for B.F. Day! (Reuben’s Brews Event)

Thanks to the generosity of local brewer Reuben’s Brews in Ballard and two wonderful B.F. Day parents, tomorrow night you can enjoy a delicious beer knowing that for every pint you and your friends drink, five dollars will be donated to B.F. Day PTSA.Reuben’s Brews is a microbrewery in Ballard that has a wall full of national awards.  Every Thursday, they give $1 of every pint sold to a different local charity, and this week the money goes to our PTSA.  Thank you, Reuben’s Brews!  

And now two generous parents have stepped up and have offered to personally match this donation (and get their companies to match as well).  Doing the math (we’re a school, after all), that means for every pint we drink, B.F. Day gets $5 donated.  What a great and delicious deal!  And yes, KIDS ARE WELCOME!

Reuben’s Brews is a tasting room, so they do not sell food other than small bags of chips and free pretzels. The Cheese Wizards food truck will be there between 5:00-8:00, however, and you can order outside and bring the food into Reuben’s.  You are also more than welcome to bring your own food. We hope to see lots of people there to have a beer, meet your neighbors, and support B.F. Day!

Math in Winter

Thank you to all who came out to Math Night! Thanks to teachers who ran the games, to Beth Tesh for event organization and ice cream, and to Principal Pearl for hosting.
